Daddy's Getting Old

While getting ready for nap today, Olivia said, "Last night Daddy said he's getting old."
I thought she was just stalling at nap time, so I agreed, "Yeah, he is."
She looked down, and sadly said, "Oh, I'm sad about that."
I quickly explained that he's getting old very slowly and will still be young for quite a while. Apparently, she was really worried about this and had been thinking about it since last night.

Our Unique Performer!

Olivia LOVES to sing and dance. All she wants for Christmas is a microphone and blue cowgirl boots. Yesterday she created a song called, "Bug's First Lick." She certainly is one-of-a-kind!

Not Everyone Poops

We have a great Usborne book called, "Everyone Poops." Olivia's comment the other day reminded me of that book.

I caught a whiff of poop (a common occurrence at a daycare with 3 kids in diapers) and said, "Someone pooped."

Olivia responded, "Not me, because I'm a princess and princesses never poop."

That's when I thought about our great book. It tells us that elephants, birds, fish, and even bugs poop, but it never mentions princesses. Hmmm? Maybe they don't poop!

Olivia's Thoughts on a Mother's Job

Brandon: "I'm the Dad, Lila is the kid, and Livi is the mom."
Olivia: "Yeah, I make the decisions and balance the house."

It May Be Time for the "Don't Do Drugs" Talk

Olivia was playing in her tunnel the other day and acting really goofy. She said, "Mom, we're using swess. Do you know what swess is? (She stood up with the tunnel wrapped around her and then fell down.)
I responded, "No."
She answered, "It's candy that makes you fall down." (She stood up and fell down again.) "So we're using swess."

More Marriage Talk!

Here's a conversation I overheard the other day between Olivia and her friend, Brandon...
Brandon: "Good job, Princess!"
Olivia: "Thanks! Do you think someday we could marry each other?"
Brandon: "Well, I'm gonna marry my mom."
Olivia: "Kids can't marry their parents, but kids can marry kids."
Well, apparently somewhere along the line, she figured out that she can't marry me, so now she's asking Brandon.

Loudly Stating What We Were All Thinking!

Our Fareway has these really cute little carts for the kids to push around the store and fill with their very own groceries. And for the kids who chose not to walk through the store, they have little cars for the kids to sit in that are attached to the front of carts. The kids can "drive" while their parents push them along. Ethan and Olivia always enjoy picking either the "kid carts" or the "car carts" when we grocery shop. While the kids and I were grocery shopping last week, we noticed a family who felt the need for a car cart AND a kid cart for just one little boy. His dad was pushing the boy in the car cart while his mom was pushing the kid cart behind him. When Olivia saw this she laughed out loud and shouted, "Ha! A parent pushing a kid cart! That's silly!"

Marriage

Olivia believes that when two people kiss on the lips they "almost marry each other." Every once in a while, Olivia will plant a big wet one right on my lips and say, "Oh! We almost married each other! Oh no! We're two girls!"
I find it pretty humorous that Olivia is more concerned with the fact that we are both girls (which is actually legal in some states) than the fact that we are related. She obviously still has a lot to learn about the laws of marriage, but I will save that for another day. Right now I'll just let her be my innocent 3-year-old almost wife!

Graham Crackers According to Olivia

This is how my conversation went with Olivia after her second day of school...
Me: How was school?
Olivia: Good.
Me: What was for snack?
Olivia: Graham crackers. I ate some, but I didn't like them.
Me: Oh, you didn't like them?
Olivia: They were potentially not good.

The Scary Book

After we tuck Olivia into bed for the night, she likes to read to herself for a few minutes before falling asleep. I was doing laundry a few nights ago after the kids were in bed, and since Olivia was still awake, I went into her room to put her clothes away. She told me that there was a scary part in the library book she was reading. I asked her if she wanted me to take the book back upstairs with the rest of the library books, but she said, "No."
About 30 minutes later when I went to check on her again, I noticed that she was sound asleep in her bed and, the book was sitting in the hallway outside of her room. Apparently, it was too scary to be in the same room with her!

Cool Swings Unlike Any Other!

While on our mini vacation last weekend we played at a really neat playground at the Spook Cave campground. Olivia ran straight for the swings right away. I made a comment about how there are so many new things to try and she chose something that we have in our own backyard. She politely explained to me that these swings are not like the ones in our backyard because they are more colorful and look like a fence.
 Notice the "fence like" point?

Olivia's Dream Last Night...

"There was lots of bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, and a bubble popped on Zo-Bo (our cat, Zoey) and she had wings. Then a bubble popped my my head and I had princess wings, and I flew with Zo-Bo in my arms for  a long ways...even over the fence...all the way to a bird. Ethan was the bird. He was a fabulous eagle. We held Zo-Bo in our arms and then let her fly away, but Ethan dropped her. He took off her wings and dropped her, so he was a bad eagle. But I saved Zo-Bo. I put my fly helmet on and her fly helmet and wings on and let her go."

It's Comin'

Lunch was finishing up, and it was about nap time. This is probably the craziest time with the day care. One of the kids was starting to fuss and Livi said, "Mom, a whine's comin' your way....but it's not comin' from my mouth."

Nicknames

Livi is very good at nicknaming people. They are always creative names that seem to stick. I thought I would post a few of them here for the record....
Dad : Doo Doo and A Dee A Dee
Mom: Wuckus
Ethan: Ocean
Zoey: Kit Heart and Meatball
Herself: Princess Purple or Sweetie

Olivia's Moon

Olivia loves the moon! As we were headed inside the other night, Olivia waved at the moon and shouted, "See you tomorrow, moon." After walking a few steps, she looked up again and said, "But you can follow me if you want to." I really think she believes the moon follows her and only her. She will tell people that it's her moon.

Livi's Thoughts on Shadows

It was dark by the time we got to our hotel room on Tuesday night, and the parking lot lights were casting shadows on everything. Most 3-year-olds would be scared of the strange shadows, but not Livi. As she walked into the hotel, she proudly stated, "I'm not afraid any more, because my shadow is always with me."

Young Chap!

On one of Olivia's leapster games it says, "Well done young chap!"
The other night Olivia said, "Dad, I think they call me chap because I like to wear chapstick."

Manners and Colors

I've been really working on using manners at lunch time with the day care. Lately, we've been discussing things that are okay to talk about while eating, and things that we shouldn't talk about when eating. The kids' favorite is going around the table and having everyone state their favorite color, food, animal, etc. So last week, Ethan asked, "What's your favorite color?"
To which Livi replied, "Vomit!"
I guess we still need to work on appropriate table talk!

Don't Shoot My Books!

A little boy in my day care was pretending to shoot things with an imaginary gun a couple of days ago. He went over to Olivia's books and starting "shooting" them.  Olivia shouted, "Don't shoot my books! That will get blood on them! That will wreck them!"
I learn something new every day. I had no idea that books could bleed!

Our Little Voice of Reason

Dylan brought a toy lion to our house. When you squeeze it, it sings a little song. The voice is a little higher pitched, so Ethan was telling Dylan that it must be a girl lion. Dylan argued that it was a boy. The bow on it's neck is orange, so that didn't help solve anything. They shouted back and forth for a little bit before Livi calmly said, "It's a boy. Girl lions don't have manes."
